Look ma, I caught one.

After a drive to Niagara Falls to check out a used car we came part way home stopping in Port Dalhousie. We parked, made dinner reservations then took a walk. At the very end of the harbour entrance I saw a man reeling in a fish. He saw the camera, turned, held it up and grinned.. Too small to keep so back it went into the water.
You can see a lake freighter out in the water. It seemed to be holding still, probably waiting it's turn to enter the Welland Canal. link



Port Dalhousie is a busy harbour for pleasure craft and boasts several marinas and boating clubs. It is also home to the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. Port Dalhousie link .
Most of the old building on the main streets are now pubs and, weekends we are told, are jam packed and loud. Years ago it was a great place to visit for well made craft items.




While at the car dealership we got talking about restaurants and we mentioned one we had visited serveral years ago that was on the old canal just as you enter the town. It had changed hands but was still first rate specializing in farm to table cuisine with a good cellar of local wines.

The scallops above were lemon crusted with paper thin bacon served on a bed of fresh corn in a whipped corn froth. The pea spouts on top were picked just before the dinner hour. I had fish for my main and then dessert.

Bittersweet chocolate hazelnut tart with raspberry sorbet and vanilla stick. Oh my.
