Snow on the ground but music in my ears

 The Bach Elgar Choir  performed, Great Opera Choruses in the auditorium at the Royal Botanical gardens this afternoon.  They were joined by three soloist and I was particularly thrilled with mezzo soprano Erica Iris Huang.  With only a piano for accompaniment the hall was filled with voices producing incredible music.

In May they are performing Handel's  Judas Maccabeus and I intent to attend.  This time it will be in a local church, their normal venue.

I had gone early so I could visit the gardens but my leg just wasn't up to the wandering.  I did manage a few flower snaps as I made my way to the exit.

Bus trip #2

This time Stratford On. for a Saturday matinee of Kiss Me Kate. I booked myself a ticket to the lecture and show on a last minute whim and Margaret, who loves live performances and music, joined me.

The gardens in front still look nice even this late in the year.

A brown bag lunch was included - fresh turkey, tomato and cheese sandwich, apple, huge chocolate chip cookie and water.

We had a chance to visit the gift shop between lunch and the show and afterwards I got a chance to meet The Bard himself. He wasn't giving autographs.

Some of the critics didn't like the over the top production but I loved the singing, the costumes, the staging .... everything including a fun day out with Margaret.

and for my 400th post, a little music

We went to a music event with my sister Catherine and her husband Eric last night. We were joined by their daughter Leila and husband Martyn and another couple to listen to a Halifax, Nova Scotia folk rock band that is a favourite of theirs.
Not knowing what to expect, but warned by our son that it could be loud, we went armed with ear plugs.
We certainly used them for the opening act. I never did hear their name and I'm not sure what it was they played but they did it with enthusiasm.



McGinty started at nine with a totally different sound and I had to wonder how pairings are made. I removed my ear plugs and settled back to some "down east" toe tapping music.

I'll be borrowing a McGinty CD or two from Eric and maybe then I'll appreciate the lyrics more.

Yesterday afternoon I bought some pansies and two new perennials for my garden. I won't be planting them today, we finally have the rain we've needed and it is rather cool outside.
I did a practice run with my new raincoat on my grocery run and it worked just fine.
