The BC Aviation Museum is a mix of restored vintage aircraft, Canadian Air Force memorabilia and working restoration shop. It isn't large but it is interesting and the volunteers are friendly. The aircraft being restored are stripped right down and built back up as original as possible. They won't be flyable .. insurance and flight certificates .. being impossible to get but that doesn't stop the dedication.
It was suggested we have lunch across the street at Mary's Bleue Moon Cafe. It is a designated heritage site having operated there since the airport was an air force base during WWII. You can spend as much time looking at photos and checking out model aircraft as you can spend eating. We had a tasty seafood chowder.
One of the chaps pointed us toward The Institute Of Ocean Studies run by the Cdn government that has displays and information of arctic research, earthquake studies ( seeing the paper readout from the recent quake in China as something ) ocean floor, marine life, pollution etc etc . You can't tour the whole facility as it is a work place but the sections you can see, all for free, was worth the detour. LOOK I SAW A WHALE,Both places are near the Victoria International Airport and easy to find.
We continued driving right to the end of the peninsula, turned across and made a short stop at Swartz Bay, the ferry terminal, for additional information and ideas.
We finished with a walking tour of downtown Sidney. It has more book stores on the main street than anywhere else I've been. We spent a little time in several of the used ones ( sorry Stephen no Ender's Game ) and took time for a photo at the park by the water. It was so windy I almost lost my hat!It was a good day.

Wow that's marvellous that you can go into the Ocean Studies Institute like that and that it doesn't cost a cent!
Great photos, the plane looks like serious work, though lol.
