The Shaver Homestead is an oasis in the midst of rapidly expanding suburbia. The house is still a family home and the property retains many of it's outbuildings .. ie: smoke house, wash shed, privy .. as well as a large bit of the original property settled in the late 1780's. Some of the fields are used by a humanitarian organization to grow crops that are shipped to third world communities.
There is a wonderful wood lot beside the house.
We headed on to The Hermitage, the ruins of a mansion and outbuildings that are now part of the Dundas Valley Conservation area. A short walk down one of the trails brings you to the property that was used as a summer home and farm for the Leith family.
The trails are well maintained, well marked and visually stunning this time of year as the wild flowers start to fill in and everything greens.
Dinner was at an all-you-can-eat crab leg buffet. We stuffed ourselves, and yes I did manage a second trip to the dessert bar.

its so nice to have that kind of oasis in the middle of an urban environment. and it looks so big and spacious!!
