Old flour sifter and Napoleon Brandy

What do they have in common?

You can soak candied cherries, blanched slivered almonds, Thompson raisins and chopped figs

with sifted flour and spices, eggs, butter, brown sugar, molasses and apple juice

bake for 3 hours

drizzle with more brandy

for 3kg of Christmas cake.

I'll be adding more brandy mid-December and when I cut and taste on the 25th I'll know if my first attempt was worth the effort.

I don't think I have ever had real homemade fruit cake with all the good stuff inside. I've had the storebought kind that comes in a metal canister. It was so hard and chewy I gave up on it. Yours looks wonderful. It should be a tasty treat when it is ready.

My hubby had a go at making the Christmas cake this year, we're calling it the Christmas cake of Whisky as he soaked the dried mixed fruit for 3 weeks in 750ml of whisky lol.
Yours looks yummy :)

And not a packet mix in sight?!!! Go E !
I bought the mixed fruit again this year to make my mini ones. Better actually make them this year instead of just soaking the mixed fruit and almonds in brandy and letting it sit there for .. weeks.. errrm.. months.... and then giving up and throwing it all out.

Whoa ho! Good for you!! It looks...and sounds...delicious. My Mom used to make hers and then wrap them in brandy soaked cheesecloth, which she'd re-soak a couple of times over a two month period. I don't recall eating it, tho, ever.... Hmmmm. Maybe Dad kept it all for himself. I can't believe that I haven't started mine yet, but next weekend looks good for beginning. I can't wait to hear how yours turned out, but really...given the good stuff you put in and ON it...I'll bet you'll be delighted!
